Getting started

How do I set Lavender up again?

Open the menu (⋮) → Set up Lavender. The guide walks you through the categories, the search engine, your PIN and making Lavender your default browser.

How do I make Lavender my default browser?

In Lavender: Settings → Make Lavender your default browser. Or in Android: Settings → Apps → Default apps → Browser app → Lavender. Then links from other apps open in Lavender and your rules apply to them.

Pausing and limiting sites

How do I pause a site quickly?

Tap the lock at the left of the address bar and choose to pause the site or give it a daily limit. No PIN is needed to add a restriction; lifting one needs your PIN.

Where do I change my rules?

Menu (⋮) → Wellbeing rules, then enter your PIN. There you find paused sites, daily time limits, categories and exceptions.

A useful site is paused by a category. What can I do?

On the paused page, tap "This site is fine" and enter your PIN. The site is added to your exceptions; your own rules still apply to it.

When does a daily limit start again?

At midnight, your phone's local time. Only the time the site is really open in front of you, with the screen on, is counted.

PIN and notes

How do I change my PIN?

Menu (⋮) → Security, enter your current PIN, then tap "Change PIN".

Can Lavender ask for my PIN when it opens?

Yes: Menu (⋮) → Security → "Ask for the PIN when Lavender opens". Lavender then shows nothing until the PIN is entered, when you open it and when you come back after more than a minute away. Entering it once also opens your wellbeing rules and notes for that visit.

I forgot my PIN.

The PIN cannot be recovered, on purpose. Android Settings → Apps → Lavender → Storage → Clear storage resets Lavender completely: this also removes your rules, tabs, bookmarks and notes.

How do I take a note?

Tap the pencil in the bottom bar: choose "Note from screen area" and drag a box, or select text on the page and tap "Save as note". Notes are under menu (⋮) → Notes and are encrypted on your phone.

Everything else

How do I share a page as a PDF or a full screenshot?

Tap the share button in the bottom bar and choose "Share as PDF", "Share screenshot" (what you see) or "Share full-page screenshot" (the whole page).

How do I change between light and dark?

Settings → Theme: Light, Dark or Same as the phone. Websites that have a dark design follow your choice.

My password manager does not fill in logins.

Lavender uses your phone's autofill service. Pick your password manager in Android Settings → Passwords & accounts (the name differs a little per phone) → Autofill service.

How do I delete my data?

All data is on your phone; we have none. Settings → Clear browsing data removes history, cookies and site data. Clearing Lavender's storage in Android Settings, or uninstalling the app, removes everything. See the privacy policy.
